A Proven Success of the project

Spela Skola Spela Kenya is an established success within the Swedish Skapande Skola program. Over the past four years, the project has engaged more than 5,000 students, creating a significant cultural footprint in Swedish education.

Inclusive & Pedagogy

The project is designed for total inclusive, welcoming all genders and skill levels. Our pedagogical approach ensures that:

  • No Prior Knowledge Required: We successfully teach students who have no previous experience in music, singing, or rhythmic movement.

  • Holistic Learning: We provide a dynamic space where students don't just learn to play instruments; they use their bodies to build physical strength and personal confidence.

  • Engagement through happiness: By balancing technical learning with play, we ensure students remain deeply engaged, motivated and get the safe space of asking questions about Kenya.

Track Record & Feedback

The impact of the project is validated by the consistently high ratings and positive reviews received from participating schools across Sweden. This feedback highlights the project's ability to seamlessly integrate into the Swedish curriculum while providing a unique, high-energy cultural experience.

Environmental Sensitivity:Traditional Kenyan Bunde drums are built for warm, dry climates. In the Nordic autumn, winter, and spring, these instruments face: De-tuning: Rapid loss of tension in organic skins and wooden, metal resonator due to humidity and cold.

Operational Delays: Current tuning requires manual heating by fire, which takes twice as much time as the actual teaching sessions.

Logistical Barriers: The fragility of traditional materials limits the ability to tour consistently across the Nordic region.

The cultural impact.

We are not looking to replace the Kenya Traditional bunde drum but bridge the gap between cultural heritage and technical innovation and creativity that is required in the expansion of the spela skola spella project that is effecient and climate friendly.

Our goal is not to replace traditional craftsmanship, but to innovate it for global environments. We are initiating a Sound & Material Study Phase focused on three milestones:

  1. Acoustic Profiling: Utilizing our existing digital sound blueprints to map and match the exact frequency, and resonance profiles of the original instrument.

  2. Advanced Material Selection: Identifying sustainable, weather-resistant material, or treated alternative materials that perfectly replicate the tonal warmth of Bunde drums.

  3. Prototyping: Building Bunde drum prototypes capable of enduring harsh climates while fully preserving their cultural and acoustic integrity.

Our next Step.

Who we are looking to connect with

Meet Kenya through traditional Kenya music. With great commitment, Reagan Oduor Nyachienga conveys the power and unique ability of creating community through teaching and mentorship in Spela skola spella Kenya Project. Students get to play African drums, dance and sing songs from Kenya. After two to three workshops in each class, the project ends with a concert where the students are involved and play together with the musicians.

Spela skola spella Kenya project doesn't just export culture; it imports social value into the Swedish school system and building a generation of Swedes who view Africa as a source of professional excellence and innovation.
